Hope - Persephone

Persephone has now remained faithful to her husband for maybe the longest stretch of her marriage. Or so she says. Sometimes, I wonder if Persephone worries that if she continues telling me about her life so candidly, I'll stop being her friend. So maybe she lies to me, too, so I won't think she's such a bad person.

What I think is unimportant, because I'm a listener. Listeners are here to let others unload their life's troubles without passing judgement. I'm an imperfect listener, though. Often, I can't help but make an editorial comment about the narrative spewing forth like bile from the confessor's mouth. They all tend to dislike my comments, because I'd rather tell them the truth than what they want to hear. I've found it's better to remain silent.

Regardless of her honesty to me or her fears about me, I believe there is hope for Persephone. She wants to become a better person and I think she has the strength to achieve that goal.

Only time will tell.
